Google is turning Chat into a work command line

The strongest line in Google's launch is not about one app. It is the idea that Ask Gemini in Chat becomes “a unified command line for all of your work.” Google says Workspace Intelligence can gather information across Workspace, understand current priorities, and use skills to complete tasks like finding files, scheduling meetings, generating documents, and building slides. It also says third-party connectors now bridge Workspace with tools like Asana, Jira, and Salesforce.

That means the product surface is no longer “Gemini helps me write.” The surface is “Gemini sits where coordination already happens and turns that conversation into action.” This is a much closer cousin to workflow agents than to classic assistant features.

The real product is context, not just generation

Google describes Workspace Intelligence as a secure, dynamic system that understands semantic relationships across Docs, Slides, Gmail, collaborators, and domain knowledge.
